Patients often comment on my glasses. The say I look like a sci-fi dentist! I sometimes counter that I wear them because I am a high powered New York dentist, but that usually doesn't satisfy their query. Then I explain that the glasses magnify everything by 4.4 times and I let them try them on. Once the see what how the glasses manify they always get it!
Good dentists have good hand eye coordination but no matter how fine one's hand eye coordination is he (or she) can only guide his hands to places he can see. Magnification makes it seem that I am working on giant teeth and I am always able to do more refined dentistry when I am wearing high powered manification glasses. When The difference between good and bad restorations is measured in microns , using magnification is a great advantage.
There are some drawbacks for sure. If my patients crossor uncross their legs while under treatment it seems to me that theres been an earthquake! Also I use a high powered miners lamp attached to the glasses which has me tethered to a light box and I am constantly forgetting about that when I leave the room (disaster! ).

Highlight your smile?
Whitening your smile is similar to highlighting your hair except it lasts much longer. It is calling attention to a beatiful feature you may have. If your hair is attractive and you highlight it then everyone seeing you is more likely to notice your hair! Similarly if you whiten your teeth they brighten and if you smile thats your feature people will notice first . If I see someone with a beautiful smile I almost always find them attractive (maybe I am a just a little biased). If fashion photographer wants you to notice what beautiful eyes the model has, he(or she) might not have the model smile showing her teeth when he photographs her since the viewer might notice her smile and not her eyes. An attractive smile is a powerful thing!

" If nothing hurts me my mouth must be OK , right?..."
This is a line of reasoning I hear from patients at my dental office too often. The patient is usually explaining why they have waited so long to come in and they explain that they assumed nothing was wrong since they had no pain. unfortunately most dental problems don't hurt until they are rather advanced .Most often dental interventions are best performed at the beginning of the problem when they can't be taken care more easily and inexpensively. Sometimes by the time the patient becomes aware of a problem it is too late for the dentist to come up with a "simple fix". If a small cavity is detected a dentist can easily repair the tooth with a small filling, but a tooth with a large cavity may require a root canal or a crown or even an extraction. Early detection of dental problems is key to keeping your mouth healthy and happy ac and frequent cleanings and check-ups allow dentists to achieve this worthwhile goal!
