Does the type of monitor matter when diagnosing decay on digitalized x-rays?

Absolutely!  We have five computers in my office and diagnosing decay is much easier when viewing my patients x-rays on the ones with larger ( and more expensive ) monitors.

Although I am not including the technical specifications of the different monitors, my most recently purchased monitor is higher definition and has better contrast than my others.

At this point I no longer use the laptop  that is in my hygienists room to check my patients x-rays. Instead I look at one of my larger monitors (24 inches ) to diagnose their check up radiographs.

If you are a dentist thinking of upgrading computers or switching from film to an electronic sensor, my advice is to invest in at least one high definition large monitor. You will be better able to diagnose decay.

  2. I have noticed a difference from one room to the next depending on the brand of monitor, even when the size is the same.

  3. Dr. Spindel, No doubt about the need of having the latest dental technology in your dental office. I myself a dentist in Gilbert AZ and we totally embrace the need of having large screens for examining the X-Rays.
