Duct tape and crazy glue in the dental office?

There are a lot of things that can stop functioning in a dental office. The more treatment rooms a dental office has, the more potential for trouble. I particularly dread Mondays, since our office is closed on the weekends and that allows problems to accumulate. It seems that almost every day something in the office is not working properly. Air leaks, internet stoppages, water leaks, and many other types of equipment malfunctions are possible .

In my office most malfunctions are often passed on to me by my staff, since I  am considered the "technical one". It is my job to diagnose each problem and decide who is the best person to fix it. My choices usually are me,  the building's assistant super,  my IT guy or a Schein repair man (a last resort since we must wait for them and their services can be expensive).  If it's something I or my super can handle, that's usually the solution I try first, since the repairs are fast and not too expensive.

Many days, between dental appointments,  I find myself crawling around on the floor with a hemostat, scissors and crazy glue, repairing dental units, broken air or water line tubing. When I succeed, I save the day, and when I fail, it can sometimes mean that one of my treatment rooms goes down for a day or two.

I have come to accept that problems can occur unexpectedly, and in life we're forced to deal with things as they happen. I try not to stress out too much when stuff happens and in my case, I am lucky to have a merry little band of helpers on "speed dial" and usually  I can depend on them to help me deal with the problems that invariably crop up.
